25 Years of Mastermelt Buxton – At the Heart of PGM Recycling
This year marks 25 years since Mastermelt acquired the Buxton site from Lea Ronel – a defining moment in the company’s growth and our commitment to innovation in industrial precious metal recycling.
Over the past quarter-century, the Buxton team has:
✅ Built deep expertise in specialised thermal treatment, consistently investing in equipment and processes that exceed environmental standards.
✅ Delivered complex chemical and pyrometallurgical solutions that recover PGMs from materials others cannot treat, driving circularity across the industry.
✅ Benefitted from strong leadership, with Production Director Darren Shipley—a former Lea Ronel employee—playing a key role in developing the site and nurturing the next generation of talent.
✅ Seen a major expansion in infrastructure and processing capacity in the last five years, underpinned by a strong focus on EHS improvements, including behavioural safety and carbon reduction.
✅ Introduced the AnoCycle process, a cutting-edge solution for stripping and recovering iridium and ruthenium from titanium anodes.
Beyond the technical achievements, we’re proud to be a longstanding employer and active supporter of the Buxton community and local charities.
Buxton remains the beating heart of Mastermelt’s PGM recycling operations – trusted to solve the most complex recovery challenges and deliver practical, sustainable solutions for our customers.
Thank you to everyone who has helped shape our journey so far. Here’s to the next 25 years!
