Our respected team of experts have unrivalled knowledge and experience in processing all types of precious metals.

Jamie completed a degree and Ph.D at the Camborne School of Mines in Cornwall. This is affiliated to the University of Exeter and one of the few institutions left in the Northern Hemisphere focussed on metal recovery and process engineering. His Ph.D thesis investigated optimization of ultrafine grinding using ball mills. The findings from this work led to a number of step change improvements in the industry. Jamie also holds Chartered Engineer status through the Institute Of Materials, Minerals and Mining.

Jamie then started at Johnson Matthey UK as a Process Development Engineer in the PGM refining. He worked on a number of projects from the implementation of the first JM Arc Smelting furnace to a new Ruthenium expansion in the refinery. Jamie then moved into the evaluation area, in charge of the thermal treatment process, sampling and melting for Johnson Matthey. This led to a more commercial role, licencing out JM Technology to partners particularly in Asia. Jamie then developed a full technical offering for JM customers looking at precious metal audits, loss mechanism identification and recovery optimization.

Jamie continued to run the technical services group, and also took on business management for a number of catalyst and scavenger products focused on the pharmaceutical and chemical industry. This included running sites in the UK, Finland, China and Australia.

Jamie then progressed into Corporate Development, developing and implementing the future strategy for the JM group as a whole.

In 2016, Jamie saw an opportunity to return to the world of precious metals in starting up and running Mastermelts Asia, incorporating the ECO-Mastermelt Refinery in Singapore.

Jamie’s in depth knowledge of precious metal refining, catalysts, markets, chemical and pharmaceutical processes cements him as one of the leading global experts in the field.


Paul holds chartered chemist status through the Royal Society of Chemistry.

Paul has spent over 50 years in a variety of fields in the precious metal industry, the first 38 years with Johnson Matthey and the latter years with the Mastermelt Group.

At Johnson Matthey he started as an analytical chemist, eventually becoming Laboratory Manager during which time he wrote and/or presented a number of papers at IPMI. He moved on to become Evaluation Manager with responsibilities for all service departments – what in older times would have been called Works Manager.

In his latter years he acted as Site Operations Manager. After retiring from JM he moved to Mastermelt in a technical support role He has installed a number of different processes for them over the years, culminating in the design, installation and commissioning of the Singapore refinery.

His first 25years in the industry were as an analytical chemist, becoming an expert initially in classical fire assay and gravimetric procedures and later instrumentation. He is very familiar with all aspects of sampling of precious metal ashes, residues and bullion.

Indeed he has designed, installed and commissioned both thermal decomposition units and sampling departments in several countries in the Far East as well as the US and the UK, for customers on behalf of both JM and the Mastermelt group.

Over the years Paul has worked closely with the pharmaceutical industry to help in the maximum recovery of residues from the reaction vessels and associated equipment as well as advising on packing and transport of the spent material.
